Evening + Morning (Part 1): Evening

TO START

This week, we started a 2 part series where we dwell with a beautiful rhythmic pattern of evening and morning reflected in the Hebrew Bible and created for you and for me. The hope is that through this series we can lean into practices where we let the visible world remind us of the invisible God who surrounds us.

  • So the big question: are you a morning person or an evening person? Why?

    • If time: Do you have any guesses about what makes a person more prone to thrive in the morning or evening?

Read Psalm 127:1-2 & Psalm 92:2

  • Have you ever considered how you approach your evenings? How does the way your night works reveal what you love or what/who you are trusting  in?

TO DISCUSS

In the sermon, Zane pointed us to 5 specific ways to approach our evenings to cultivate an awareness for the work of God and dependence on God. We invite y’all to spend time talking through each of the 5 below & we encourage everyone to find one practice to try!

  1. Nail Down A Bed Time

    1. How hard is it for you to go to sleep consistently during your week? Do you notice a difference when you get a full night’s sleep?

  2. Turn Down Your House

    1. Do you have a regular rhythm to wind down at night? What would it look like for you to develop a process of turning down your house and praying to God as you do each action?

  3. Put Down The Device

    1. Is it hard for you to shut down from your phone at night? Any good practices you know for intentionally doing this?

  4. Double Down On Impulses

    1. What impulses have you had to guard yourself against in the past when it comes to the evening?

  5. Jot Down Prayers

    1. What's a way in which you had to depend on God in this past week?

TO CLOSE

We invite y’all pray for God to enable each group member to find a way to increase their awareness of God in the evening regularly. You’re welcome to pray the following prayer to close:

May we recognize God in the day and night.

May we depend on God when we rest and when we rise.

May we praise God with all of creation for giving us grace of the evening and morning.

Amen.
