SMALL GROUPS
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."
-Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
WHAT:
Every week, groups of about 12 adults from our church gather in homes across the Round Rock area to fellowship, pray, and discuss how to live out the teachings of Christ. Different groups meet on different days of the week (Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday) usually for one-and-a-half to two hours. (There’s almost always food involved.)
This is a central element of being a part of the Round Rock Church of Christ, and a key way we experience being filled & led by the Spirit.
Because of this, roughly 60% of everyone who calls RRCOC home is active in a small group.
WHY:
Our small groups exist to fulfill a specific purpose: to provide a predictable environment where participants experience authentic, intimate community that leads to spiritual growth.
Accordingly, our primary goal for small groups is not in-depth Bible study (though that happens, and interacting with Scripture in the company of others is a significant part of the small group experience), nor is our goal evangelism (though sharing Christ with others is a hugely important). Instead, what we aim to achieve through small groups is community—life-giving relationships within the body. (You know–the kind of thing Jesus had in mind when he created the church.)*

*This is why we limit group size to about 12 adults. It’s also the reason that once a group is formed, it’s not open to an in-and-out flux of visitors. (People are much more likely to get close and share what’s actually going on in their life if there aren’t different people at their small group meeting every week. This is part of what it means for our small groups to be “predictable” environments.) Sometimes, these priorities result in folks having to wait a bit to get into a group, but we feel that’s better than creating big ol’ groups where close relationships are less likely to form.
HOW TO JOIN:
We’d love for you to become a part of a small group. We try to place new people in existing groups when spots open, and we try to form new groups every three to four months.
