TURN (Part 4): Turned Off

TO START

For this series, TURN, we want to invite your group to move through a process of turning to God together. Each week we are inviting your group to move through questions and prompts in the following order: STUDY → CONFESS → REPENT → PRAY (feel free to choose a few questions/prompts from each section)

  • Share a time when you got a second chance even though you didn’t deserve it (a warning instead of a ticket, an opportunity to re-take a test, etc.). How did that make you feel?

In this series, we are focusing on the spiritual practice of repentance. Repentance is the practice of turning away from sin and toward God. Each week, we want to invite your group to turn towards God by reflecting on a weekly prompt of repentance. Here is this week’s prompt: I have been slow to change when it comes to _____ in my life.

READ JONAH 3:1-10

STUDY

  • How do you think Jonah felt when God gave him the call to go to Nineveh a second time?

  • Jonah’s attitude towards the Ninevites hasn’t seemed to change, so why is God still choosing to send Jonah on the same assignment?

  • What does God’s response to the Ninevites in v10  tell us about how God relates with his people? Can you think of other moments in Scripture where God relents based on the people’s action?

CONFESS

  • Share about a time when you were confronted with the reality of needing to love someone who didn’t want good things in your life. How did you work through that situation?

  • Do you spend time seeking out/building relationships with people who don’t know God?

  • Is there someone in your life who trusted God in a difficult season or a risky way that has led you to trust God more?

REPENT

  • Share a time in your life where God gave you a second chance.

  • What would it look like for you to live in a way where you trust that God will be on the other side of whatever is risky, dangerous or uncomfortable?

  • What steps might it take for you to care more about the people in your city than the cultural changes happening in your city?

PRAY

  • Give thanks that we serve a God of second chances.

  • Consider a time in which you allowed the ways your expectations or categorizations of someone or something led to you missing an opportunity to trust God. Ask for forgiveness and for more opportunities.

  • Agree as a group to attend at least 1 of the come & go prayer time on Wednesday nights.
