SERMON SERIES:

FIXING OUR EYES

How do we make it through hard times?

Wait them out? Cross our fingers and hope they get better? Find a wand to wave that makes hardship vanish?

Nope; there will always be hard things. What we need most is not the absence of hardship, but a shift in focus. When times are tough, we often look hard and long at our circumstances, obsessing over the loss, the pain, the loneliness, the grief. According to Scripture, what we need is to lift our eyes to Jesus--to shift our gaze to him and let that altered focus bolster our faith, give us hope, and get us through.

PART 1: FIRST, EASTER

When Jesus rose from the dead, the first person to see him—Mary Magdelene—didn't recognize him. (Can you blame her? She wasn't exactly expecting him.) But looking long enough at Jesus to recognize him for who he is…will change everything for us, just like it changed everything for Mary. In this message, we'll explore what we see when we fix our eyes on the risen Jesus.

PART 3: JESUS INTERRUPTED

The problem with your problems is that other people have bigger problems. Given that others have it worse than you, should you really bother God with your concerns? There’s a fantastic moment from the life of Jesus that gives us a clear answer.
