SERMON SERIES: IN THE BEGINNING

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. ...But what does Genesis mean when it says that? You may be surprised at the answer. In this message, we'll look at God as Creator—both in the beginning, and right now.

PART 1: CREATOR

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. ...But what does Genesis mean when it says that? You may be surprised at the answer. In this message, we'll look at God as Creator—both in the beginning, and right now.

Text: Genesis 1:1-31

PART 2: IMAGE

Whether it's a kindergarten classroom, the grass in a backyard, or the health of a marriage, the interesting thing about chaos is that all you have to do for it to take over is……nothing. The kids start fighting, the weeds sprout and the grass gets shin-high, the relationship gets distant and strained—do nothing and order, health, and function slip away. Why? Simply because it takes energy and intent to stave off chaos.

In this message, we'll see that God created human beings in his image so that we could join with him in the good work of creating and sustaining order in the world. And we'll ask what that means for us here & now.

3/8/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Genesis 1:26-28; 2:8-15

PART 3: CREATION

Ever noticed how much of the creation account in Genesis 1 has to do with non-human creation? Most of it, in fact, is "stuff, plants, and animals." So what are we to make of that? Why does God spend so much energy creating non-human things? What's to be learned from that?

3/15/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Genesis 1, Psalm 104

PART 4: UNION

Divorce, abandonment, racism—there's one thing at the core of so many painful realities. And it's something God has been working against from the very beginning.

3/22/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Ephesians 2:12-19
