Better at Pleasure (part 5): You've Got to Try This
TO START
We started the sermon this week with this question: What is keeping us from being better at pleasure?
We’ve talked about a few reasons (do you remember them?); do you have any of your own? Has this series led you into any personal discoveries about pleasure?
TO READ
Compare I Timothy 6:17-19 to James 5:1-5.
What’s the difference between the way the rich people in James 5 use their wealth and the way Paul recommends people use their wealth in I Timothy?
What’s the “right way” to enjoy our extra according to these passages? What’s the wrong way?
TO DISCUSS
Why do you think we struggle with sharing? What keeps us from using our extra for the good of others?
What is “extra”? How do we know when we have it?
God shares his joy with you when you share your blessings with others.
Have you ever experienced God’s joy in sharing?
Have you ever suffered from hoarding your blessings?
Identify pleasures in your life and brainstorm ways to share what you’ve been given. Have each group member identify one pleasure they’ll try to share this week.
Our scripture reading on Sunday was Psalm 133: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Verses 2 and 3 talk about oil poured on a head that drips down and also blesses the beard and shirt collar, about dew from one powerful mountain shared with a smaller mountain.
What is it about sharing that encourages/enables unity?
TO PRAY
Pray for God to show you ways to share your blessings!
