In the Beginning (part 4): Union
TO START
To start group tonight have each member share one way they’ve seen God this week.
Or play Pits and Peaks (have each group member share one high point and one low point from their week).
TO DISCUSS
Have a member summarize the Sunday message in their own words.
What’s the enemy God’s working in opposition to? (A: Separation) How does that enemy manifest itself in our culture?
Where have you seen separation fighting to gain ground in your life? Who are you feeling separated from?
What do you think of C.S. Lewis’s depiction of hell as a place primarily defined by separation? Does that ring true to you? Why or why not?
How are you weathering this new form of separation in your life? Take a minute and share how you’re doing with our nationwide effort at social distancing.
We said on Sunday, “God wants to bring you close to Himself, and God wants to bring you closer to others.”
How does that make you feel?
What has God done to make that possible?
Who do you feel truly united with? Share a time when you felt integrated/connected/united with someone else. What made you feel so close?
What can you be doing in the next few weeks to draw closer to God? Make a list of actions you could take.
What can you be doing in the next few weeks to draw closer to God’s people? Make a list of actions you could take.
TO READ
Read 2 Corinthians 5:17-19
What do we learn about reconciliation from God?
What does God do in order to reconcile us to Himself?
What must we be willing to do in order to reconcile with others?
What sometimes prevents you from reconciling with others?
TO PRAY
For the next few weeks be sure to pray at each meeting. Prayer connects us to one another and to God. Encourage members to be brave and be genuine as they share their requests.
FOR FUN
One great way to draw close to one another is to sing together. It may be a little messy (you’ll be dealing with video delays), but try singing a song together during your virtual gathering this week. You can sing the song we sang during worship (Awesome) or try something Old School like Amazing Grace.
