TURN (Part 1): Turn Down
NEW SERIES
For this series, TURN, we want to invite your group to move through a process of turning to God together. Each week we are inviting your group to move through questions and prompts in the following order: STUDY → CONFESS → REPENT → PRAY (feel free to choose a few questions/prompts from each section)
How do you normally prepare for the coming of Easter? Do you change anything about you or your family's rhythms in the weeks leading up to Easter?
In this series, we focus on the spiritual practice of repentance. Repentance is the practice of turning away from sin and toward God. Each week we want to invite your group to turn towards God by turning & reflecting on a weekly prompt of repentance. Here is this week’s prompt: I have not trusted God with ______ in my life.
READ JONAH 1:1-4
STUDY
Why do you think Jonah is so quick to run from God? Can you recall other stories in the Bible that begin this way?
Based on God’s actions & reactions in the story, what does it say about God’s nature?
Is there a group of people who you don’t want to speak to like Nineveh?
CONFESS
If someone asked you to define “confession” how would you explain it?
What areas of life are you tempted to handle your way instead of God’s way?
Share a time where you relied so deeply on past faithfulness where you couldn’t see the areas in your life where you were living unfaithfully.
REPENT
If someone asked you to define “repentance” how would you explain it?
What area of your life have you been asking to bring change or life?
What are you doing differently in this season of your faith that’s changed since you first started following Jesus? (or are considering if you don’t yet follow Jesus.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the instances in which we’ve turned to God.
Spend time praying together for the areas of your life that you have simply not given up to God (Maybe encourage each member to say: “Help me, God to see where I’m not trusting you.”)
Agree as a group to attend at least 1 of the come & go prayer time on Wednesday nights.
