Psalm 23 (Part 1): Sustain Us

TO START

This Sunday, we launched a new series rooted in Psalm 23. Each week we will slowly fix our minds on each verse of this well known song of the Bible to be people who not only claim the name of God, but also reclaim the realities that are true behind God’s name…

  • Like the toilet paper stampede of Covid 2020, what world event has most impacted your life?

This week we are inviting your group to choose questions from the multiple options below.  Our hope is that these questions might help you to lead your discussion in a way that makes sense for your group this week as y’all “talk it out” and “live it out”.

TALK IT OUT AFTER READING PSALM 23:1

STUDY

  • What does it mean for God to be your shepherd? Can you think of other examples in Scripture where God is described as a shepherd?

  • What does it look like to have a peace/rest in God that you can say, “I lack nothing”?

PROCESS

  • Dallas Willard writes, “we always live what we believe; we just don’t always live out what we profess to believe”... Do you think this is true? If so, how does it look in your life?

  • Does your life feel fragile or disconnected right now? Explain.

LIVE IT OUT

PRACTICE

  • What in your life do you often choose to sustain you that contradicts your beliefs about God?

  • What would it look like for you to invite God into the details of your day to day life?

  • When was the last time you’ve taken a risk or entered into something hard trusting God?

PRAY

  • Ask folks to share any prayer requests or praises from this past week and pray over those things

  • Then we invite you to pray Psalm 23 together as a group (we will do this each week)!
