A Bad Case of the Mehs (Pt 4): Giving In
TO START
This Sunday, we entered the final part of A Bad Case of the Meh’s. When we find ourselves in a meh place with God or others, we can find ourselves depressed, despondent and dry towards God. Nothing is terrific or terrible. Because of this, we all have self-induced burdens we put on ourselves. We also have burdens other people put on us & yet, Jesus makes it clear that if you come to him, he will not pile on the weariness you are already navigating, instead, he gives us real rest.
What is the most refreshing vacation you have ever taken?
This week we are inviting your group to choose questions from the multiple options below. Our hope is that these questions might help you to lead your discussion in a way that makes sense for your group this week as y’all “talk it out” and “live it out”.
TALK IT OUT AFTER READING MATTHEW 11:27-30
STUDY
If no one knows the Son (Jesus) except the Father, what does this tell us about knowing Jesus?
What does Jesus promise to give to those who are weary and burdened? Why does he say it is easy and light?
Does Jesus exclude anyone from this place of rest? Are there other examples in Scripture where Jesus gives rest to those who have been without rest?
PROCESS
Share a time in your life where you had to carry something heavy? How did it affect your daily life?
How do you relax? Paint us a picture.
What is the area of your life that drains you the most right now? OR In what areas of life are you laboring or weary?
LIVE IT OUT
PRACTICE
What are the benefits & dangers of being open-minded with your beliefs?
How often do you find yourself looking for rest somewhere else? What kind of rest do you need (physical rest for your body, spiritual rest, rest from worrying, rest from doubts or fears)?
If you were to look honestly at your life, are you satisfied with the amount of work you do versus the amount of rest you have?
PRAY
Invite the group into a minute of silence and simply ask them to answer the following prompt in their head, “Jesus invites us to come to Him in order to find true rest, this means we have to give up to Him the thing(s) that keep us from rest… name one burden that you need to give up to Jesus right now (maybe it’s an emotion, a question, finances, fears, plans, relationships, future, etc.)”
