Filled & Led (Part 6): The Holy Spirit Begins With The Scriptures

TO START

This Sunday, we jumped into part 6 of our Fall series focused on the new vision: “To be a Spirit-filled & Spirit-led church for those who don’t have a home yet”. Each week, we will journey with a part of the book of Acts as we unpack what it could mean (and not mean) for us to be Spirit-filled and Spirit-led people. To start, unpack this prompt together:

  • Think of a time you felt compelled to do something that didn't make sense in the moment. Did you do it? What came of it?

This week we are inviting your group to choose questions from the multiple options below.  Our hope is that these questions might help you to lead your discussion in a way that makes sense for your group this week as y’all “talk it out” and “live it out”.

TALK IT OUT AFTER READING ACTS 8:26-38

STUDY

  • What does Philip teach us about being led by the Spirit? Are there other examples like this in Scripture?

  • What examples of the Holy Spirit leading do you see in the story?

  • Notice the questions that are being asked in the story, which question do you most identify with right now & why?

PROCESS

  • Share a time where you felt like you were in the desert/wasteland/rock bottom and God provided refuge. What did it look like? How long did it take for you to recognize the water?

  • Share a time in your life where you encountered God through the pages of Scripture (i.e. you felt God speaking directly to you or a group of people in some way)

LIVE IT OUT

PRACTICE

  • What is your relationship with Scripture? How do you view it in your life & is it a regular part of your rhythm? Why or why not?

  • What would it look like for your group to help set the table for meeting Jesus through hospitality? Is there anyone who wants to serve individually or collectively at Alpha (Wed. nights, Sept. 27th–Dec. 6th) and/or at Love the Rock (Oct. 14th)?

PRAY

This week, we want to encourage your group to pray together by sharing one way in which they feel like they are in the desert and to ask collectively for God to provide water/life in those places. Then close by praying, “Come, Holy Spirit, Come”
