Palm Sunday: Would You Welcome This King?

TO START: This week, we welcomed guest speaker, David Fraze, a professor and pastor from Lubbock who invited us to consider what it means for the one true King, Jesus to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey meant for a have not.

READ: Luke 19:29-40

DISCUSS:

(1.) Share a time when you have been overwhelmed by a sense of anticipation of something.

(2.)  What kind of king is Jesus? How does his entry into Jerusalem reveal his humble yet authoritative nature?

(3.) What are the different responses of people on the scene of Jesus’s triumphal entry? What do you notice about each of their responses?

(4.) What’s the significance of the disciples crying out “Hosanna” and “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!”?

(5.) What are the other kings/kingdoms  you find yourself worshipping or looking to for help in your life? What’s keeping you from welcoming Jesus, the suffering savior as the true King in your life?

PRAYER:

As we head towards Easter Sunday, this week, we invite you to spend time this week having someone pray this simply prayer over the group to close your gathering:

“Lord, Jesus, gentle and humble,

Help us to see the palms we hide in,

That we may instead lay them down

For the reward of your kingship,

In the throne of our hearts.”

Amen.
