Are you wondering where to start when it comes to sitting with Scripture or dwelling Jesus right now? If so, this program is for you! The easiest way to start is by sitting with someone else who is doing just that and ready to partner with you in it.
This spring, we will host a multitude of 1 on 1 partnerships revolving around the practice of reading the Gospel of Mark together. The partnership is modeled after the ancient practice of Lectio Divina which was first used by Christians in the 6th century. Lectio is a way of reading the Bible reflectively as you pay attention to what the Holy Spirit is doing in you and inviting you to. It’s a way of allowing the Scriptures to sink deeper into our hearts. And even more you get to embark on this with someone who is reading and praying alongside you.
This is a “together” kind of work. Anyone can join, so jump in. It will be worth it in so many ways! If you have interest in being mentored this Winter/Spring, please let us know through the form below!
If you have any questions about participating in this program in the future, please email our Discipleship Minister, Matt DeLano!
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I AM Hesitant to Commit to This?
A: Don’t worry, we understand. A big part of this experience and of following Jesus is taking small, brave steps that might just turn out to be huge & life-changing. And to be candid, you can open up as little or as much as you want, but trust us, the more you open up, the more you will get out of this relationship and the more you will invite the Spirit to work in the process!
What is The mentoring relationship like?
A: This is a partnership. This is meant to be a safe space for vulnerability & collaboration, not a place of coercion/correction. Not a place where a leader is teaching you about Scripture and evaluating how much you know. Rather, y’all will both walk through the experience of reading and praying through the Gospel of Mark. The mentor will lead by example but it’s so important that both partners equally invest in the journey!
What does the Actual time look like with my mentor?
A: One of the best things about it being a partnership is it’s adaptable to your personalities. No matter your personality, you can expect time for checking-in, reading Scripture, processing and praying together. The heart of this time is not to know more information but to encounter what God is doing in each of your lives as well as give you a model for dwelling with God personally and individually in the day to day.
How to know if you Are ready to jump in:
A: Do you feel like you’ve reached a plateau in your faith and don’t know where to find your next step? Do you desire to learn more about how God is still speaking today in Scripture? Do you desire to grow in your faith alongside another Christian pursuing their faith?
What’s the time commitment for the progRaM?
A: You have 15 weeks to complete 10 sessions because we know things come up and we would love for you and your partner to work out a rhythm that works best for you. Also, the regular rhythm for the program is you will have a 1 hour-1 1/2 hour 1on1 meeting and you will have a 1-2 chapters of Mark that we will encourage you to read each week in between your meeting times.
Who Will be my mentor?
A: When you sign-up for the program, there is a survey you will fill out that will help us to prayerfully and thoughtfully determine the best match for you. Don’t worry, you will not be randomly matched with someone! Mentors among other things are individuals who demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit, those who hunger for the movement of God through the Holy Spirit, those who listen well & who are willing to not have the final word. This relationship is not about knowing all the things but it is about allowing partnership of Scripture and the Spirit to deepen your intimacy with God and those who gather in God’s name.
